Luma is our desktop application that allows you to improve the post-production workflows of the internal video editing team. Luma has two components, a standalone desktop app, where you can manage all of your tasks, and an Adobe Premiere Pro extension that allows you to manage the videos you edit within Adobe Premiere Pro.
You can download Luma from the below link for both Windows and macOS:
Required setup
Working folders
When you first install Luma, you are required to select a working folder for the app. We’d recommend placing this folder in your local drive to make sure Luma has a stable connection and correct permissions when reading and storing files.
Click ‘Select’ to select a folder.
Output folder
After selecting the Working folder, you will be prompted to select an Output folder. We’d also recommend placing this folder in your local drive.
Click ‘Select’ to select a folder.
Save work files settings
Luma can store your work files and output files for as long as you want but will consume more disk space the longer files are kept.
Switch on the ‘Auto clean working files to save memory’ You can set up the number of days for storing the work files.
Click ‘Continue’.
Adobe Applications
Certain functions in Luma use Adobe Premiere Pro. Luma will automatically detect the location of Adobe Premiere Pro on your machine, otherwise, you can click on the folder icon to point Luma to the correct location.
Luma supports Adobe Premiere Pro version 2022 and later and Mac OS 12+.
Click ‘Continue’.
You have now finished the initial setup process for Luma!

General Settings
In the General tab, you can configure the following for video tasks:
When Luma opens a task:
Create a new Premiere project file:
No: Default option. Every time an editor opens a task from Luma, the ‘Open Project’ in Premiere will be displayed. After selecting a project, Luma will import the task files to that project.
Yes: You will be prompted to select a folder path and select the tokens to name your project file. When an editor opens a task from Luma, the app will silently create a project file with the designated naming convention in the chosen folder path.
Organize imported files into bins:
No: The bin path and bin naming section will be hidden
Yes: Default option. By default, the bin path and bin naming convention is Product Code and the hard-coded text sub-folder Source Files, Color References and Sequences. After setting up the tokens here, when opening a task from Luma, the corresponding file names will be applied in Premiere Pro. If the settings here are changed, you need to re-open the task to apply the update and Luma will generate new files with updated names. The existing files with the previous naming convention will still be available in your bins.
After Luma uploads a task:
Save Premiere project file:
Yes: Default option
No
Close Premiere project files:
Yes: Default option
No
Important Note:
Only the following characters are allowed when naming the files:
[a-z][A-Z][0-9][.-_/]
Once the files are imported into a project, they cannot be moved or renamed manually in the Luma workspace directory. If they are moved or renamed, you will see the usual “Media Offline” error in your Premiere Project.
The export file name must be the same as the sequence name.
The sequence must be exported to the designated Luma Output folder.
The remaining settings in Luma which are Workspace, Interface, External Applications and Proxy will function the same as in Hue. Please refer to HUE desktop app overview.
Similarly, Luma has the same display settings and filters as Hue. Please refer to Hue filters and display settings.
After completing the Luma settings, you are ready to add the Luma Premiere Panel and work on your tasks! Click here to learn more.
