Copywriting Configurations allow studios to set their copywriters up for success, producing the best copy for their Products efficently and easily. In this article, we discuss how Configurations work as part of a Copywriting Styleguide setup.
Copywriting Configurations
A configuration is a combination of Fields and Layouts that allow copywriters to see image assets, guidelines, restrictions, and more as they work.
As part of setting up a Style Guide for Copywriting Productions, you will have the option to 'Create New' or 'Select Existing' copywriting configurations from the Copywriting Tab of the Style Guide.
You can save configurations as a Local Configuration or a Central Configuration.
Local Configuration: will be saved for just the Style Guide you are working on and will not be available for other Style Guides.
Central Configuration: will be available to select on other Style Guides with the Text Production Type enabled. This can be changed via the Actions dropdown.
Within a Configuration, you can add multiple Layouts, and each Layout can have unique combinations of Widgets and Fields.
After creating or adding a configuration with Layouts, you will find a smaller, interactive version of each associated Layout under the Layouts section.
Layouts
Select the Pencil Icon next to a Layout's name to edit further. You can add, remove, and adjust the size or position of the Widgets and Fields displayed in the Layout from this page.
To set up a new field type from the Edit Configuration screen, you’ll click on Add > Create New > Then select a Field Type from the dropdown.
There are multiple Field Types to choose from, and in each, there will be a number of configurable fields.
Field Settings
While different Field Types may have different settings available, the most common Field Settings are shared across them.
The table below contains common Field Settings. For more information about settings that are unique to specific field types, continue to the next section.

Field Types
In this section, we will talk about the different available field types and review any configuration options that are unique to them.

Use this field for short, concise text entries such as headlines, product titles, or taglines. It supports character limits and can auto-populate from Product Properties, making it ideal for brief, controlled text inputs.
Unique Setting | Function |
Min & Max Characters | Set an upper and lower limit to the number of characters that the copywriter can enter into the field. |
Text & Data Prefilling | Add a property token to have its value auto-populated in the field for the copywriter. |

This field is designed for longer-form content like Product descriptions, feature lists, or detailed narratives.
It offers rich text formatting options (bold, italics, links) and can deliver content in HTML or Markdown format.
Unique Setting | Function |
Delivery Format | Set whether the field should be delivered as HTML or Markdown to the delivery location. |

Note: Delivery Format & Text Formatting will only appear as available configurations if the 'Rich Text' toggle is enabled on the initial Settings tab.
Care Instructions
This specialized field enables copywriters to select appropriate garment care symbols (washing, drying, ironing, etc.) from a standardized set.
It automatically outputs the selected symbols in a consistent format, ensuring compliance with industry standards.
Unique Setting | Function |
Delivery | Choose whether to deliver the copy for this field as a string of names or IDs as an array. |
Symbols | Allows you to edit, reorder, enable, or disable care instruction symbols. |
Note: ID and Name fields must be unique.
Color Field Types
This field allows copywriters to select product colors from a customizable palette of color swatches or uploaded color images.
It's perfect for standardizing color naming conventions and ensuring consistent color references across all product copy.
Unique Setting | Function |
Delivery | Choose whether to deliver the copy for this field as a string of names or IDs as an array. |
Colors | Allows you to edit the colors, reorder, and enable or disable colors.
You can choose to use a color swatch or upload your own color image. |
Predefined List
Use this field when copywriters need to select from a specific set of options, such as product features, benefits, or categories.
It can be displayed as multiple-choice selections, tagging, or dropdown menus with configurable minimum and maximum selections.
Unique Setting | Function |
Display | Determines how copywriters interact with and select from the predefined options.
There are three display options available:
|
Min & Max Selections | Set the minimum and maximum number of selections the copywriter can use in the field. |
Delivery | Choose whether to deliver the copy for this field as a string of names or IDs as an array. |
Options | Add options to be displayed as part of the predefined list. |
Hidden Field
This field will be hidden from copywriters during the Production process. It will automatically pull data from designated Product Properties without requiring copywriter input.
It's ideal for including metadata, SKUs, or other system-generated information that needs to accompany the copy during delivery.
Unique Setting | Function |
Map Data Property | Add a property token to have its value auto-populated in the field at Asset Delivery. |
Note: A Product Property token must be selected when creating this field type.
Material Composition
Use this field to document complex product material breakdowns, including different components (upper, lining, sole) and their respective materials with percentages.
It supports disclaimers for specific materials and can handle products with multiple material combinations.
Unique Setting | Function |
Delivery | The delivery format is fixed to 'JSON with IDs.' The delivery will configure output as structured JSON data that includes the unique ID values. |
Options > Components | Define the labels used to group materials when a product consists of different parts made of various materials (e.g., Upper, Lining, Sole).
Each component acts as a container that can hold one or more materials with their percentages. |
Components > Repeated Components | When enabled, it allows the same component label to be added multiple times in a single material composition.
This is useful when you need the same component label for two different material combinations within the same product. |
Options > Materials | Create the master list of material options that copywriters can select when building the material composition for each component.
📝 Note: The same material can be used in multiple components.
🗣️ Tip: You can copy/paste Materials and their IDs from a spreadsheet to bulk add them to fields. |
Options > Disclaimer | Set up standard phrases that are connected to specific materials in the composition output.

Widgets
In addition to fields, Widgets can also be included in Layouts and Configurations. By default, the asset viewer is the only available Widget.
The Asset Viewer will display any assets completed for associated Visual Type Productions under the same Product Code.
