Every step in a V2 Workflow is connected to the steps around it by a transition– a rule that tells Creative Force what to do next when a task at that step is completed, rejected, or bypassed. Transitions are what make a V2 Workflow flexible: you define the routes a task can take, and Creative Force follows them automatically or prompts your team to choose.
➕ Workflow V2: Transitions are configurable step-by-step only in Workflow Engine V2. Editorial productions run on a separate workflow engine and are not affected by the rules in this article.
Getting Started
A transition is the connection between two steps in your workflow. Each transition belongs to a step, its origin, and points to a destination step, defining where a task will go once the transition is triggered. This article covers the four transition types, how to configure a transition on a step, how automatic vs manual routing works, and the specific rules that govern rejecting and bypassing a step.

To configure a transition, open the Workflow Management screen for the workflow you want to edit and select the step whose transitions you want to change.
Transition Types
Creative Force supports three standard transition types, plus Done with Instruction, a variant built on top of Done. Each type has its own color on the Workflow Management screen, so you can read a Workflow's logic at a glance.

| Blue | On Done, with instructions | Completed with extra instructions carried forward for whoever picks up the next step. |
| Red | On Rejected | Sends the task back to an earlier step for correction. |
| Purple | On Bypassed | Skips the step entirely and moves the task ahead. |
Configuring a Transition
Within the Workflow builder, there are four points connected to each visual block representing a Workflow step, one at each edge.
Hovering over these dots allows you to drag a line and connect it to a dot on another Workflow step. This line represents a transition.
Because every step must have at least a 'Done' transition type, forward-drawn lines connecting two steps will always default to that type.
When drawing a line backwards, from a later step to an earlier step, the line will default to a Reject transition.
When drawing a line forward to connect points that skip a step between them, the line defaults to a Bypass transition.
When drawing a line that connects to a new step from a path that already has a default 'Done' transition, the new Done transition can be changed to a 'Done with Instruction' transition.
Workflow Example
Using the example above, we can create the following example Workflow, which behaves as described in the table below:

Done Transition
The default transition type. A Workflow comprised entirely of Done transitions could be considered fixed and will always progress in a linear forward-moving progression.
⚠️ Important: A step always needs at least one Done Transition Type. Without it, Creative Force will flash a warning and refuse to save the Workflow.
Optional: User Decides
When more than one Done transition is attached to a single step, it will break into an optional branched path where the user completing the task must choose manually.
📝 Note: Optional 'User Decide' paths can only be transitioned from a step where the user is expected to perform a task, such as: Final Selection, Photo Review, Post Review, & Internal/External Post QC.
With the example above, we have an optional path that can be decided manually by the user at Final Selection. Regardless of the path taken, both paths lead to Asset Delivery at the same connection point at the end of the Workflow:

Complete the task and move it forward to Internal Post-Production.When the user is in Final Selection, they will be able to access a drop-down menu where they can manually decide the continue path, and send it to either the Internal Post step or the External Post Step.
Done + Instruction
When more than one Done transition is attached to a single step, one of those transitions can be converted into a 'Done with Instruction' transition.
This allows the system to decide which path to take based on whether or not instructions were added at the source step or any preceding step.

In this example, we can see that because instructions are added at Final Selection, the system defaults the selected continue option to External Post, and is transitioned to it automatically after completing the task.
Bypass Transition
Bypass lines are used to skip associated Post-Production and Post-Production QC steps within a Workflow. A bypass line is drawn FROM the step to be skipped, and connected TO the ultimate destination step.

Bypass Internal
When a Bypass Transition has been set for Internal Post, a Flow Control option will become available in the top-level 3-dot menu in the Hue Task Panel for the task:
The Flow Control menu will present the user with options to select how the task should be processed relative to the options built into the Workflow.
Bypass External
Bypassing External Post is an action executed within Gamma, and can be done prior to the step reaching External Post, or while currently at the step:

Reject Transition
Rejection transitions allow a user to send a task and its related assets back to a previously completed workflow step for a second pass. Steps that allow rejecting a task also allow users to add instructions and markup using the markup tool.
In this example Workflow, we have created bypass transitions from Final Selection back to Capture, from each Post QC step back to their respective post-production, and from internal post-production back to Capture.
