This retrospective will provide an overview of the service disruption that users experienced on October 27th 2026.
Summary
From approximately 17:25 UTC to 19:55 UTC on October 27, 2026, users experienced problems working with tasks in the Gamma kanban view across multiple parts of the platform. Other areas of the Creative Force experienced intermittent issues. The underlying workflow data relating to tasks was correct and safe throughout the incident. The disruption was limited to the background service that keeps the kanban view in sync with workflow changes.
That service was restarted during routine maintenance by our hosting provider, Amazon Web Services (AWS). On restart, it failed on a configuration issue related to a database that had been inactive for an extended period, and it stopped processing updates.
The issue was first reported by customers shortly after 18:15 UTC, ahead of our automated monitoring. Development removed the inactive database from the service, and updates resumed at approximately 19:55 UTC. All changes made during the incident were then processed automatically and the kanban view was confirmed back in sync. No data was lost and no data repair was needed.
Follow Up
The service involved had been upgraded to a new version the week before the incident. The previous version handled long-inactive databases without failing, which is why this scenario had not occurred before.
We are adding a configuration change so that a database without recent activity can no longer stop the service when it restarts. The supporting changes are already in place on our production databases.
We are also improving our monitoring to alert on whether the service is actively processing updates, not only on whether it is running, so we can detect this class of issue before it reaches users. In addition, we are reviewing how long change history is retained, and we have added this scenario to our testing checklist for future upgrades of this service.
For future priority one incidents, a banner will appear in platform to alert users to performance degradation.
